BJP’s 12-hour shutdown partly affects life in West Bengal.
The police used tear gas, water canon on protesters.
The protesters were demanding the resignation of  Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the rape-murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata.
The usual business on the roads in Kolkata was not usual, the number of buses were missing with lesser  auto-rickshaws and taxis plying. Private vehicles were also significantly less in numbers. Markets and shops remained open. Schools and colleges also remained open, in most private offices, attendance was lesser.
There was violence in the street of Kolkata.
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari alleged that over 160 protestors, including 17 women, suffered injuries in the police action. Police claimed that several cops were also injured in the clashes.
