Finding no other substitute for Priya Dutt, the senior Congress leaders, Varsha Gaikwad and Aslam Shaikh met her at her residence and requested her to contest from Bandra constituency which she represented twice as an MP, in the past.
The Congress said, “We want her to fight this election and be our face from Bandra west constituency. This is her constituency. She has worked here for decades. Before her, her father represented this constituency. And though she has stepped out of active politics for the last few elections, she has been very active socially.” Congress is confident that Priya Dutt would garner substantial Muslim votes in her constituency.
Presently the constituency is represented by BJP Mumbai president Ashish Shelar.
Priya Dutt has not given any reply to the Congress request.
