Shiv Sena (UBT ) leader Sanjay Raut sent to jail for 15 days after the Metropolitan Magistrate, Sewree court, convicted him in a defamation case filed by Kirit Somaiya’s wife, Dr Medha Kirit Somaiya. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him.
Sanjay Raut had alleged that the Somaiya couple was involved in a scam of Rs 100 crore by misusing funds for toilet construction.
Medha Somaiya, in her complaint had alleged that Raut made baseless and completely defamatory allegations against her and her husband. She said “The statements have been made to malign my character in the eyes of the general public.”
