The Anti Extortion Cell of Mumbai Crime Branch arrested 6 accused who claimed to be from Abhinav Charitable Trust in Goregaon.
According to the information received, one Shekhar Sakpal called the BMC Engineer and told him that his Trust has recieved a complant that his degree is fake, Sakpal demanded Rs. 55 lakh to remain silence, and threatened to expose him in media if amount was not paid.
The Engineer was called to the office of the Trust in Goregaon where Shekhar Sakpal and Santosh Pujari demanded Rs 55 lakh, after negotiation, they settled for 9 lakhs.
The engineer paid Rs 2 lakh to Shekhar and Santosh.
On 21 September, the extortionists again called the engineer and demanded Rs 3 lakhs.Totally harassed, the BMC Engineer contacted the Anti Extortion cell, which laid the trap.
The Engineer was summoned to the Abhinav Trust office in Gurgaon. As soon as the Engineer handed over the money to the accused, the Anti Extortion Cell officials arrested red handed all the accused, Santosh Pujari, Ashish Pandey, Shekhar Sakpal, Pratap Chokhandar, Abheraj Patel and Rafique Mulanai, red handed.
