In a Mumbai local train a ticket checker, Rakesh Maurya, demanded their ticket. Couple, Amit Patil and his wife requested him to speak in Marathi, as they didn’t know Hindi. Hearing this, Maurya got aggressive, took them to the Nalasopra ticket office and said “If you are in India, you should know Hindi.”
This is not all, The couple was also forced to write, “We will never demand to speak in Marathi.”
As the news spread, people protested at Nalasopara station. Rakesh Mourya has been suspended.
The Western Railway, in its statement, affirmed “Western Railway respects all languages spoken across the country and values the diversity of our passengers, standing firm on unity in diversity.”
The Railway authorities said that the matter will be investigated thoroughly, and necessary actions will be taken.
