Arif Bamne, a resident of Dockyard, Mumbai, was present at the Gateway of India jetty yesterday when the tragedy struck. He’s in passenger boat ferry business, thus, a good swimmer.
Arif said that there was no rescue team available for 30 days after the collisions of the boats, it was the people like him who helped the victims.
Arif rescued more than 35 boat crash victims from drowning.
The survivors and their family members in particular and the people in general are full of praise for him and the service he rendered to the beseiged victims.
Locals are preparing for a grand felicitation of Arif for saving valuable lives.
FIR was filed at the Colaba police station in south Mumbai under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the Navy speedboat driver and others involved in the incident.
