A base of a tree outside Khan Building, ‘D’ Block, Dockyard Road, was concretized, reportedly to avoid rats from scaling the tree and entering into residences of the building.

However, a local tree and animal activist, Hoshang Billimoria, took an objection to the fiddling with the tree and got the cement around the tree removed through the BMC.

When asked the reason behind getting the cement around the base of the tree removed, Hoshang said, “With the entire surrounding is packed, how would the tree acquire the requisite water for its sustenance.” If the cement was to be applied for any reason, at least 2 inches of circumference should have been left for the water to reach the roots of the tree, said Hoshang.
