Quashing a criminal case registered in Jharkhand, against an 80-year-old, Hari Nandan Singh, accused of calling Shamim Uddin — an Urdu translator and acting Right to Information clerk, ‘Miyan-Tiyan” and “Pakistani” Supreme Court has held that using such terms may be in poor taste but does not make out a criminal offence that can penalise acts intended to wound religious sentiments.
