Ranya Rao, the Kannada actress and daughter of Karnataka’s Director General of Police, Ramchandra Rao, has been arrested at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport, for smuggling 14.8 kg of gold from Dubai.

Ranya was on the radar of DRI after she traveled to Dubai four times in 15 days and 10 times in the last two months.

DRI investigation found she had allegedly smuggled the gold by wearing a significant portion of the gold and hiding gold bars in her belt and accessories.

The DRI team found in CCTV footage at the airport that she wore similar clothing on all her trips, with the belt concealed. They are now trying to determine if she is part of a larger gold smuggling ring operating between Dubai and India.

An EOW court has sent her to 14 days judicial custody.
