Mumbai’s sessions court  rejected an application by gangster Abu Salem against his planned transfer from Taloja central prison in Navi Mumbai to another jail.
Salem argued that Taloja jail is ‘very safe for him’ and that shifting him out of the Taloja jail was a ‘conspiracy to kill him’ by the members of rival gangs as he was likely to be released in a few months. Salem told the court that he could be attacked by members of rival gangs in other jails in Maharashtra.
The jail authorities told sessions court that it was decided to transfer him as his present cell required reconstruction and there was no other safe cell available for him in Taloja prison.
Abu Salem is serving life sentenced in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case,
