On 18 September Sameer had gone to hospital with his wife Nilofer for a routine checkup. As their driver, Abdul Andari, went to pick them up, he accidentally pressed accelerator instead of break knocking Sameer down, where he sustained severe injuries including a brain clot and multiple fractures to his ribs, shoulder, and neck.
Vinobha Bhave Nagar police have collected his blood samples to rule out any possibility of alcohol consumption.
