A militant separatist group Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), claimed responsibility for the attack and kidnapping, stating that they had taken 100 hostages from the train.
Among the hostages are active-duty personnel from the Pakistani military, police, Anti-Terrorism Force, and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), all of whom were travelling to Punjab.

The BLA warned, “if the occupying forces attempt any military operation hundreds of hostages will be executed, and the occupying forces will be responsible for the bloodshed.
