Dog menace in Dockyard vicinity;
J.J. refused to treat patient bitten and injured by dogs.

The residents of Mazgaon vicinity including Nawab Tank Road, Narsu Nakhva Marg in general and D’lima Street, in particular, are plagued due to the growing number of stray dogs, it has become a nuisance and a threat to the safety of residents, especially children and senior citizens.

The dogs are aggressive and attack not only passers but also pounce on two-wheelers, often ending up in tragic incidents.

On Thursday, a pack of dogs attacked a local resident, Shakil Belkar, at around 1.15 am while he was on his way home. His leg was ripped by the pack of dogs. He was saved after some locals interfered.

Shakil was bleeding profusely and was rushed to J.J. Hospital. For Shakil, the most shocking was the refusal by the doctors at J.J. to treat him citing unavailability of concerned doctors. He was called the next morning.
A private hospital also turned him back.
Finally, Shakil was treated at Nair Hospital.

According to the locals, the particular dogs that attacked Shakil have been mobilized by Rajesh Singh, who never chain the dogs, despite many people attacked by them.

The locals say they find it difficult to summon courage to move out due to the potential attacks by the stray dogs.

The concerned BMC E ward is unmoved even after a chain of aggressive dog biting incidents in the vicinity brought to the notice of the department.
